The uninstaller may not be able to remove all files, for example, log files created after the product was installed may remain. Manually remove any remaining items.
Cape Clear Server System Requirements
Cape Clear is a platform-agnostic application that supports multiple combinations of operating system, application server, and database implementation.
Cape Clear Server has the following hardware requirements:
-
Approximately 400MB of temporary disk space is required to run the installer.
-
Approximately 200MB of disk space is required for a full installation.
-
For a developer machine, a minimum 2GB of RAM is recommended. For more information on system requirements for Cape Clear Studio (the development tools), see Cape Clear Studio System Requirements.
-
For the Cape ClearServer runtime environment, refer to the RAM requirements of the application server in which Cape Clear Server is deployed.
Before installing and using Cape Clear Server, you must have Sun Microsystems' Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) version 1.4.2_10 or 1.5 installed on your computer. J2SE is available for download from the Sun Microsystems Web site. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the location of your JDK, for example, C:\j2sdk1.4.2_10 or C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_08.
Note
When Cape Clear Server is deployed in the Tomcat container, Sun JDK 1.5.0_04 or a later version of JDK 1.5 is required.
Importance Notice Regarding JDK Security Policy and WS-Security: Sun’s JDK and JRE ship with restricted security policies as a requirement of the U.S. government regulations on exporting strong encryption. In order to use strong security keys and algorithms, and to enable unlimited keylengths that are required by WS-Security, you must perform the following steps to install unrestricted Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) policy files. If these steps are not performed for each JDK to be used, errors such as “algorithm not found” are issued when you attempt to use Digital Signatures and XML Encryption (unless the default algorithms and key types are changed to use the less secure versions):
-
Identify the version of JDK that you are using, for example, JDK 1.4.2_10, or JDK 1.5.0_08.
-
Browse to the download page for this JDK (for example, http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html#docs or http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads) and download the unrestricted JCE policy files.
-
Expand the ZIP file you have downloaded and replace the existing JAR files in your JDK_HOME/jre/lib/security directory with the ones contained in the ZIP file.

License Information
Before installing, ensure that you have your license information ready. This information is e-mailed to you by Cape Clear after you download the product from http://www.capeclear.com.
Cape Clear Server can be installed into an existing installation of any of the supported servlet engines or application servers. Alternatively, the Cape Clear Server installer includes a bundled copy of the JBoss application server that can be used to host Cape Clear Server. If you choose this default option during the installation process, a copy of JBoss will be installed, it will be configured for use with Cape Clear Server, and Cape Clear Server will be deployed into the JBoss installation as part of the installation process.
Cape Clear Server requires a database. This database provides a robust transactional storage facility that the runtime uses to store information on message and process state for individual process instances. By using a database, the runtime can recover messages and active process instances after it has been restarted. Cape Clear Server can connect to a database server running either on the local host or on a remote host that is accessible over a TCP/IP network.
The Cape Clear Server installer includes a copy of the HSQL in-memory database that can be used for this purpose, although it is not recommended for production use, as it is not sufficiently robust. If you choose HSQL as the database type during the installation process, no additional set-up of the database is required (that is, unless you change the default details on the Enter the Server Database Connection Details screen of the installer. Refer to “Running the Cape Clear Server Installer” for more information). If you choose an alternative database product, you must configure an installation of that product for use by Cape Clear Server.
If you wish to use an existing Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL database, select the appropriate database during the installation and specify the database configuration details on the Enter the Server Database Connection Details screen of the installer.
If you wish to use Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL as the database, but do not have an existing database, you can do either of the following:
-
Select the Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL option during the installation and note down the database configuration details that you specify on the Enter the Server Database Connection Details screen of the installer for use later when you are setting up your database.
-
Select HSQL during the initial installation of Cape Clear Server and then customize the deployment configuration for the database after installation has been completed.
Whether you have an existing database or create a new one, there are several post-installation steps required to configure your database. For example, as a post-installation step, you must run the SQL script for your chosen database, which the installer copies to one of the following directories in your Cape Clear installation:
-
Server/prep/conf/hibernatepersistence/sql/mysql
-
Server/prep/conf/hibernatepersistence/sql/oracle
-
Server/prep/conf/hibernatepersistence/sql/sqlserver
These SQL scripts set up the database tables, indices, and constraints for your database. For more details on post-configuration steps, see “Completing Your Installation: Database Components”.
During the installation process, you are prompted to select which optional Cape Clear modules should be installed. If you choose to install WS-Reliable Messaging (WS-RM), by means of selecting it in the list of optional modules, then you will need to configure one of the supported databases: Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server.
The Cape Clear WS-RM runtime requires a database. This database provides a robust transactional storage facility that the WS-RM runtime uses to store information on individual message sequences. By using a database, the WS-RM runtime can recover active message sequences for delivery after it has been restarted. WS-RM can connect to a database server running either on the local host or on a remote host that is accessible over a TCP/IP network.
If you do not have existing database tables configured for use by WS-RM, you can select the default database configuration during the initial installation of Cape Clear Server and then customize the deployment configuration for the database after installation has been completed. For more details on these post-configuration steps, refer to “Setting Up a Database for Cape Clear WS-Reliable Messaging (WS-RM)”.
Note
Although Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is supported as a WS-RM database configuration, it is not yet available as a WS-RM database option in the installer. You must configure it manually after installation. In this installer step, if you plan to use SQL Server, select the In Memory (Development only) option. Refer to the section “Configuring Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for WS-RM” for the manual configuration steps.
